Grading Policy
Overall semester grades for the course are determined using the schools set scale:
90 - 100% A 80 - 89% B 70 - 79% C 60 - 69% D Less than 60% failing Grades in the course are determined according to the following weightings Tests and Quizzes- 70% Lab work 20% Homework 10% Quizzes and homework on individual units are grades on a 90-80-70-60 scale. - - Usually 2 attempts on unit quizzes are allowed, the second being given at an instructor designated time before or after school. All retakes must be taken at that time. Completing daily assignments is critical to understanding the type and complexity of problems students are expected to solve on the unit quizzes and review exams. Homework that is turned in on time and complete (no problems skipped and all problems solved) can be corrected for a maximum score of 80%. Students are encouraged to redo problems even if they score over 80% to ensure understanding of the topics. All redos must be turned in by the quiz date for the unit. |
Review tests are given as midterms and semester exams (and a review exam just prior to the actual AP exam. Review tests, like the unit quizzes, contain questions and problems that closely resemble those on the AP exam.

Late Work and Missed Labs
Late work is penalized 10% per day, or fraction of a day, that it is late. All work for a unit needs to be turned in by the quiz date for the unit. No late work or redos will be accepted for credit once the quiz for the unit is given. Daily work is to prepare you for the unit quizzes and review tests, not bump up your grade at the end of a grading period.
Students are responsible for all lab write-ups for every lab that we do. If a student misses the data gathering and discussion, they should talk to the instructor to receive instruction on how to proceed. Some labs may allow for make-up dates, usually time is scheduled before or after school, but others may require that data is obtained from the instructor or other lab groups so that an analysis and write-up may be competed for the lab.
